The FA-MAS is a French-made bullpup assault rifle. Its name is an acronym for "Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne", meaning "Assault Rifle of the Saint-Étienne Arms Factory." Due to its distinctive shape, it is also nicknamed the "Clarion" (signal trumpet).

The F1 variant is the standard model that was widely adopted throughout the French Armed Forces. It features a large carrying handle that doubles as the sighting system, with the cocking lever located inside the handle. The rifle is also equipped with a folding bipod and uses a magazine capable of holding 25 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition equivalent to the M193 cartridge.
