Chambered for 7.62×51mm NATO ammunition, this bolt-action rifle is part of the renowned Arctic Warfare family, often referred to as the AW (Arctic Warfare) rifle. Its origins trace back to the PM rifle (officially designated L96A1), developed by a British manufacturer founded by a gold medalist competitive shooter. The PM rifle introduced an innovative design featuring a thumbhole stock with a metal chassis sandwiched between durable polymer panels. Cutting-edge competition shooting technology of its time was incorporated, including an action and chassis secured with screws and adhesive for enhanced rigidity and accuracy.

The improved AW variant was later developed for Swedish military sniper trials, where it was reinforced and refined to operate reliably in extreme conditions down to -40°C.
