1/700 Special 39: Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft Cruiser - Ise (1944 Ver.) (Plastic Model) [Fujimi]

The Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft cruiser Ise (1944 version) joins Fujimi’s 1/700 Special series, faithfully recreating the ship’s appearance during Operation Sho-1 in October 1944. This kit captures Ise after the removal of its No. 5 and No. 6 main turrets and the addition of an aviation deck, complete with planned onboard aircraft including Zuiun and Suisei.

Newly designed parts improve historical accuracy and painting flexibility. Radar units are precisely sculpted, with the Type 21 radar featuring finely detailed insulator bases and the Type 22 molded in open form via slide molding. The Type 13 radar includes a truss-structured representation. Armament parts have been updated, including a more detailed 12.7 cm twin high-angle gun and easy-to-paint multi-part cutters and boats. Additional features include a newly tooled chrysanthemum crest for the bow, side lights, mast decals, and more.

The hull is molded as a single piece with separate aviation cruiser–specific parts. The deck captures wood textures with fine engraving, and the bridge uses a layered assembly with split-pattern floors and optional binocular parts for greater realism. The aviation work deck is precisely rendered with a separate elevator piece. Funnel and armament details are sharp, with open-barrel main guns using slide molds. Distinct parts are included to represent the Ise’s unique aft mast structure.

Two aircraft types are included—six Zuiun and six Suisei—molded in gray. Anti-aircraft guns use modern two-part tooling for high fidelity. The set overall combines fine sculpting, thoughtful part separation, and optional detailing to deliver a historically faithful and display-ready model.
