1/700: Special 002 - Imperial Japanese Navy - Battleship Kongo (Plastic Model) [Fujimi]

Fujimi’s 1/700 Battleship Kongo recreates the legendary Imperial Japanese Navy vessel in her final 1944 configuration during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. This waterline model is part of the streamlined Standard Edition line, designed for easier assembly while preserving the crisp detail of the original Special Series tooling.

Kongo’s iconic structure is captured with a unified left-right hull, engraved wooden deck textures, and wartime-sealed portholes expressed through raised molding. The forward bridge section is molded with precision using a slide mold, while the aft sections include correct features such as upgraded AA stations, Type 21/22/13 radar equipment, and relocated gun mounts reflecting her final refit.

The kit also includes finely sculpted funnel parts with open caps, distinctive flat-surfaced turret tops unique to Kongo and Hiei, and linoleum-plated aircraft handling decks molded as separate pieces for ease of painting. The main guns feature integrated barrels and blast bags with fixed elevation and open muzzles thanks to slide molding.

Three floatplanes are provided—two Type 0 observation seaplanes and one Type 0 reconnaissance aircraft—all molded in gray to ease handling. Marking decals include national flags and aircraft insignia to complete the display.
