The 1/700 Heavy Cruiser Kumano joins Fujimi’s Special Series as a waterline model with an exclusive etched parts set, capturing her early-war 1942 configuration during operations in the Dutch East Indies campaign. This edition faithfully reproduces the unique features of the fourth Mogami-class cruiser before mid-war modifications.

Key structural distinctions are reproduced with dedicated parts: an angled hull side different from Mogami and Mikuma, open portholes, a broader beam near the shelter deck, and ship-specific air intakes. The bridge features clear window parts and binocular stations, while the pre-radar front mast and distinctive rear mast are also accurately modeled. The deck includes finely sculpted linoleum sections and fittings unique to Kumano and Suzuya. The narrow funnel, separate steam exhaust, and custom AA gun platforms are precisely captured.

The included etched parts cover railings, ladders, catapults, funnel caps, and more—enhancing realism far beyond injection-molded detail. Aircraft components are molded in gray to prevent damage and include one Type 0 and two Type 95 reconnaissance seaplanes. Marking decals feature the naval ensign, national flags, and aircraft insignia.
