The HMS Lord Clive was the lead ship of the Lord Clive-class monitors, a series of shallow-draft heavy gunboats built by the British Royal Navy during World War I for coastal bombardment. Named after Robert Clive, a key figure in British colonial history, Lord Clive was equipped with heavy artillery repurposed from earlier battleships.

Initially outfitted with 12-inch Mk VIII naval guns taken from pre-dreadnoughts, Lord Clive provided artillery support along the Belgian coast in the English Channel, targeting German positions with long-range fire. In 1918, she was experimentally upgraded with a massive 18-inch gun, the longest-range weapon in Royal Navy service at the time—though it only fired four rounds in total during testing.

Despite its limited combat effectiveness, the vessel remains a fascinating example of British naval innovation. After the war, HMS Lord Clive was decommissioned, dismantled, and scrapped in 1927.
