1/700: Special 17EX-1 - Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier Amagi (With Etched Parts) (Plastic Model) [Fujimi]

Fujimi presents the 1/700 scale Special 17EX-1 model of the Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier Amagi, a detailed waterline kit enhanced with photo-etched parts for advanced realism.

As the second ship of the Unryū-class carriers, Amagi is reproduced here in her late-war configuration with superb accuracy. The model features fine detailing and careful part division to capture the unique characteristics of the ship, including an extended bridge aft section that integrates a custom tripod mast base and newly added rectangular anti-aircraft platforms on both sides of the stern and port center.

The flight deck—often a flat surface in models—is rich in sculpted detail with engraved arrestor cables, expansion joints, tie-down rings, and more, bringing dynamic realism to the surface. Aircraft included are those assigned to the post-completion 601st Air Group: Zero Type 52, bomb-equipped Zero Type 21, Suisei (Judy), and Tenzan (Jill).

The kit comes with two large photo-etched metal sheets that add ultra-fine features not possible with injection molding alone. These include railings, ladders, radar arrays (Types 13 and 21), aircraft propellers, arresting gear, and elevators. Some parts replace or overlay the existing plastic parts for improved detail.

Note: Metal parts require painting. For best results, use instant adhesives or rubber-based glue depending on the part type.
