1/700: Special 022EX-1 - Japanese Navy Battleship Yamato (Plastic Model) [Fujimi]

Fujimi presents the 1/700 scale Special 022EX-1 model of the Japanese Navy Battleship Yamato, complete with precision photo-etched parts. This kit recreates the Yamato as she appeared during her final sortie toward Okinawa in April 1945—her last and most fateful mission as the flagship of the Combined Fleet.

Based on this late-war configuration, the model reflects numerous historical modifications:

- Several secondary guns were removed to bolster anti-aircraft defense, including the installation of 12.7 cm twin high-angle guns and additional 25mm AA machine guns.
- Radar equipment includes the Type 21 radar atop the bridge, the relocated Type 22 radar on the bridge’s side, and the Type 13 radar on the rear mast.

The hull is constructed with an integrated port/starboard and wooden deck piece, with closed portholes rendered in raised molded detail to reflect the late-war modifications. The wooden deck features raised texture as well. All parts, including the hull and lower hull plate, are molded in grey plastic. The bridge and funnel are built from left-right halves for accurate shaping.

[Weapons & Features]

- The main turrets feature barrels and canvas molded as a single piece and are fixed in elevation.
- Only two remaining secondary turrets are included, each with the turret and barrels molded as one.
- Includes two versions of the 25mm triple machine gun mounts (without shield): one using traditional mold parts and another using highly detailed molds introduced in 2018.
- Shielded 25mm triple guns can be built in either high elevation or neutral position.
- Added AA platforms on the turret roofs and stern are reproduced with dedicated parts.
- Includes two Zero observation planes and two Type 0 three-seat reconnaissance floatplanes (all molded in grey).
