Fine Molds presents a 1/35 scale plastic model of the Type 4 Medium Tank (Prototype), a rare prototype developed by the Imperial Japanese Army during the final years of World War II in response to changing battlefield tactics.

Inspired by the rapid advancements in tank warfare during Germany’s blitzkrieg and campaigns against the Soviet Union, the Type 4—originally designated “New Medium Tank (Ko)”—was designed to move beyond traditional infantry support roles. The first prototype, armed with a 57mm gun, was completed in May 1944. However, the worsening war situation prompted a directive to upgrade its firepower with a 75mm tank gun. The conversion was completed by February 1945. Ultimately, only two prototypes were built and tested before the end of the war.

This kit reproduces one of those rare prototype tanks with high fidelity, including the cast turret based on existing photographic references.
