The Ghost in the Shell Fuchikoma Raden Automatic Wristwatch from GARRACK combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with the futuristic world of the series in a distinctive mechanical timepiece.

The dial depicts the AI-equipped think tank Fuchikoma from the front using raden, a traditional decorative technique that incorporates the iridescent mother-of-pearl layer of seashells. Each dial is carefully finished by hand by skilled artisans, giving every watch a unique pattern and natural brilliance.

An open-heart window is positioned over the area corresponding to Fuchikoma’s right arm, evoking the movement of its manipulator. The hour and minute hands are inspired by its arms, while the indices incorporate motifs based on its wheels, allowing details from the series to be appreciated throughout the design.

Raden is a traditional Japanese technique in which the iridescent portions of shells such as abalone are shaved extremely thin and applied as decoration over lacquer. In Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, the craft has long been known as aogai-nuri and has been passed down as one of the defining techniques of Takaoka lacquerware.

Because genuine shell is a natural material, every dial displays its own individual colors and reflections. The Japanese-made automatic movement is assembled in Japan, completing this finely crafted Made in Japan model.
