During the Qing dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi, in her ruthless pursuit of absolute power, turned to venomous insect sorcery, casting curses on eunuchs and palace attendants. Her victims became puppet-like corpses—obedient, hollow vessels used to tighten her grip on the imperial court. As their numbers swelled, the curse spread like a plague, igniting terror among the common people.

To confront this growing horror, a Taoist priest from the Maoshan tradition, Master Huang Yang, was entrusted by desperate villagers to stop the spreading evil. His journey took him to the towns of Guangxi, where he faced a nightmarish encounter: a mutated Kui-Guan feasting on civilians, its presence triggering mass casualties and the violent spread of venomous worms.

In response, Master Yang erected a ritual altar, channeling divine will in an attempt to restore order and act on behalf of Heaven.

This fictional setting, penned by Bico Liou, founder of THE MURK, reimagines the story within the twilight of late Qing China. Echoes of classic Hong Kong horror cinema linger throughout—a chilling homage to the unsettling visions that haunted our childhood memories.
