S.H.FIGUARTS: Ultraman (Type A) - The Birth of Ultraman (Limited Edition) [Bandai Spirits]

From Ultraman Pre-Launch Special: The Birth of Ultraman, the program where Ultraman first appeared on television on July 10, 1966, Ultraman (Type A) joins the S.H.Figuarts (SHINKOCCHOU SEIHOU) line in a special monochrome color version.

This figure recreates the original Ultraman (Type A) suit using body scan data from Bin Furuya, the suit actor who portrayed Ultraman at the time. The sculpt was created by Minoru Narita, who also worked on the S.H.Figuarts (SHINKOCCHOU SEIHOU) Ultraman Tiga series, with cooperation from Tsuburaya Productions’ LSS sculpting division. From the overall body balance to the distinctive mask design, the figure carefully captures the look and atmosphere of the original suit.

The monochrome coloring is inspired by the black-and-white broadcast of Ultraman Pre-Launch Special: The Birth of Ultraman on July 10, 1966, as well as the way many viewers experienced Ultraman through monochrome television sets at the time. Multiple color patterns were tested and reviewed under the supervision of Tsuburaya Productions’ LSS sculpting division, resulting in a high-contrast monochrome finish that still conveys the feeling of Ultraman’s original colors.

Soft parts are used throughout the figure to support a wide range of articulation, allowing collectors to recreate memorable scenes from the series while preserving the unique body balance and surface lines of the Type A suit. The set also includes a newly sculpted Specium Ray effect part based on its appearance in episodes 1 through 13 of Ultraman, along with multiple interchangeable wrist parts and a Ultraman Series 60th Anniversary Display Base (Monochrome Ver.).
