The Nankai 9000 Series is still going strong, now available in both its current and original paint schemes! Nankai Electric Railway, one of Japan's oldest private railway companies, connects Osaka's Namba Station to Wakayama, Mount Koya, and Kansai International Airport, having been established in December 1885. The 9000 Series, based on the 8200 Series used on the Koya Line, was introduced in 1985 with 32 cars built for operations on the Nankai Main Line. It was the first to feature an all-stainless steel body for the Nankai Main Line.

Originally, the 9000 Series featured a green stripe on its silver body to distinguish it from Koya Line trains. However, from 1993 onward, the design was updated with blue and orange stripes to match the rebranding that accompanied the opening of Kansai International Airport. Currently, all trains in this series have undergone upgrades to improve passenger services, including control system updates and accessibility enhancements.
