The protagonist, son of one of the Empire’s Five Generals, gathers "108 Stars of Destiny" to rebel against the oppressive imperial regime. The moving story, highlighting the bonds of family and friendship, was acclaimed worldwide. Key elements like the "Runes" and the "108 companions" became defining features of the series, while innovative gameplay systems such as building a "home base" and engaging in large-scale "war battles" enhanced the game’s epic scale.

*Suikoden II*, released in 1998, refined the beloved mechanics of the original, including runes, 108 companions, and strategic battles, while continuing the story three years after the first game. The tale follows three childhood friends, including the protagonist, caught in a web of destiny.
