Japanese Original Edition, Brand New Figure
From NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, 2B is beautifully reimagined as a Japanese-style doll in this stunning 1/4 scale figure by F:NEX, crafted in collaboration with the traditional doll maker Yoshitoku.
A Boldly Styled Kimono that Enhances 2B’s Unique Beauty -
This beautifully crafted figure presents 2B in an elegantly arranged kimono that highlights both her grace and strength. The asymmetrical draping of her outfit, with its sculpted folds and layered design, creates a refined and flowing silhouette. Her black kimono pairs seamlessly with sheer thigh-high tights and textured boots, blending traditional and gothic aesthetics. The subtle movement in the hem and sleeves adds a sense of energy, balancing her composed elegance with the quiet power she embodies.
Delicate hair accessories and an intricately tied obi enhance the figure’s refined look, while her weapon is held with precision, capturing her poised yet ready-for-battle presence.
Outfit Design by Renowned Doll Artist Ayumi Uyama -
The costume prototype was meticulously designed by doll artist Ayumi Uyama, known for her masterful craftsmanship. Inspired by 2B’s steadfast determination, the kimono is boldly styled with a deconstructed, layered approach, allowing for movement and fluidity. The traditional juban (inner robe) is replaced with a gothic-style black one-piece dress, creating a monochrome contrast of black and silver-white tones.
Her calm yet resolute stance is enhanced by the dramatic flow of the sleeves and hem, capturing the inner strength that defines 2B. Every aspect of the figure is carefully crafted to reflect the unique concept, elevating 2B’s design into an artistic interpretation that merges tradition and futuristic elegance.
Expression of Character Through Traditional Kinran Brocade -
The kimono and obi are crafted using kinran, a luxurious brocade fabric woven with gold and silver threads, a technique traditionally used in high-end Japanese textiles. The densely woven fabric allows for intricate patterns to be rendered with dimensional depth and a rich, glossy finish.
The kimono draws inspiration from 2B’s signature gothic aesthetic, utilizing a monochrome kinran known as "Mukinmono," which deliberately omits gold threads, achieving a deep black-on-black design. The fabric features the "Kumotatewaku" (Cloud Rising) pattern, a historical motif representing ascending steam and gathering clouds, symbolizing change and fortune. This choice is deeply symbolic, reflecting 2B’s journey through cycles of fate and rebirth.
A Refined Contrast with a Kinran Obi Accent -
To balance the overall design, the obi fabric takes an inverse approach, utilizing silver-white kinran that matches 2B’s platinum hair color. The obi’s pattern depicts waves crashing against a cliffside, symbolizing resilience and inner strength. This masterfully crafted obi fabric is produced by Kyoto’s renowned Bando Shoten, a respected textile merchant specializing in high-quality woven fabrics.
With its carefully curated materials, artistic sculpting, and deep thematic integration, this limited-edition figure is an exceptional fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern design, making it a truly one-of-a-kind collector’s piece for NieR:Automata fans.
