Kamen Rider W, which aired from 2009 to 2010, holds a special place in the franchise’s history as the first series to officially adopt the “KAMEN RIDER” spelling in English, shifting away from the former “MASKED RIDER” designation.

In this series, two characters—Shotaro Hidari and Philip—transform into a single Kamen Rider by activating their belts simultaneously. (For those of us in the same generation, it's hard not to be reminded of classics like Barom-1 or Ultraman Ace.)

Shotaro was played by Ren Kiriyama, and Philip by Masaki Suda. The story unfolds in Futo, a city of constant wind, known for its towering windmill—a setting that gives life to a gritty, hardboiled detective narrative.

(And on a personal note, my heart swells knowing that the detective office desk used in the show was repurposed from the 1979 drama Detective Story. A subtle but moving tribute.)
