[Ultraman Max]

Originally aired in 2005, this beloved Ultraman series celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Designed as a return to the franchise’s roots, Ultraman Max delivers self-contained, classic tokusatsu entertainment, following the heroic feats of the strongest and fastest Ultraman as he battles a host of bizarre and memorable monsters.

The cast featured a lineup of rising young stars of the time—Sota Aoyama, Hitomi Hasebe, Hikari Mitsushima, and Kai Shishido—alongside veteran performers. Behind the scenes, a diverse range of acclaimed creators assembled under the direction of Takeshi Yagi, bringing a dynamic energy to the series. The creative team included prominent filmmakers such as Shusuke Kaneko (Death Note, Gamera Trilogy) and Takashi Miike (Laplace’s Witch, Crows Zero), whose contributions added cinematic flair to the production. Notably, Showa-era Ultraman legends Akio Jissoji and Toshihiro Iijima returned to direct episodes featuring classic kaiju like Metron and Baltan, blending nostalgia with new energy.

This is the first complete HD release since the show’s original broadcast two decades ago. Included in the set is the rarely seen Episode 40: Special Finale – To the Ultra Future, which originally aired just once and served as an epilogue to the original 39-episode run. Now remastered in HD, this long-lost gem is finally available to fans.

The set also features "Climax Stories", a special compilation recounting the entire series from Episode 1 to the finale, narrated by a key character. Like the finale, it has been newly remastered in HD and appears in a Blu-ray box for the first time.
